THE COLLEGE

Govt. Girls College, DGKhan was established as an intermediate college in July 1966, housed in the Hindu School building in DGKhan. Mrs. Sakina Mehmoood was the first principal. The current building was inaugurated in October 1971, and constructed to cater to the needs of the intermediate classes. The college is centrally located in the city and spans over 13 acres of land. Graduation classes began in December 1973. The BS 4-year program was introduced in 2010 across 8 disciplines, elevating the college to a postgraduate status. The institution has evolved significantly over time.

In 1994, twelve additional classrooms were constructed with the support of Provincial Minister Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa and through the efforts of former Principal Mrs. Nusrat Saif Ullah Khan. Mrs. Saifullah served the college as a principal for nearly 20 years, a noteworthy duration. She diligently transformed the institution. I.C.S. classes commenced for intermediate students, and by 2002, degree courses were offered. To cater to technological advancements, a computer lab was introduced.

In 2010, the Fatima Jinnah Block and a multipurpose hall were added, thanks to the immense efforts of ex-Principal Dr. Farkhanda Wajid.

Tragically, floods in 2012 wreaked havoc, but Principal Miss Rehana Rahat and the staff faced the challenges with courage.

In 2013, Mrs. Nighat Tahir assumed responsibility and undertook the task of rehabilitation. She implemented bold and revolutionary measures to enhance the institution. Following her, Mrs. Ghazala Qadoos assumed the role of principal, introducing video conferencing and daycare setups. Both Mrs. Shahina Riaz and Mrs. Tahira Anjum Bukhari also made significant contributions to improving the college’s learning environment.

Currently, the college offers an extensive BS 4-year program in subjects such as English, Economics, Education, Botany, Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Information Technology, and Urdu.

The Govt. Graduate College for Women is renowned for its exceptional standards in education and character development.
